Membership Types

FULL MEMBERS

Full Members are MA/NREMT certified EMTs who have demonstrated their proficiency with all equipment and procedures used by the Service, and their ability to direct and independently provide the care of patients both on scene and during transport. Promotion to Full Member status requires approval by a 2/3 vote of the Full Members

PROVISIONALS

Provisional Members are MA/NREMT certified EMTs who are new to the Harvard Ambulance Service. Provisionals provide a full range of emergency care at the EMT-Basic level, under the supervision of Full Members, thereby sharpening their field skills. Each Provisional works to master all of the competencies listed on the Service’s Provisional Member Checklist.

CADETS

Cadet Members are actively enrolled in an NREMT training course and seeking national recognition as a certified EMT. Cadets are not EMTs. These Members must sign an agreement with the Service acknowledging their commitments to membership requirements for the Ambulance Service and the attendant requirement to work towards Full Membership. Cadets must be appointed by the BOS and sworn in prior to “ride along” activity. Check out the Cadet Program.

DRIVERS

Drivers are trained and certified in Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) through completion of a course not less than the standards established by the Committee on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care of the American Heart Association in accordance with the regulations set forth in State DPH 105 CMR 170.310, and have successfully completed the Service’s driver training and testing program.
